Radioactive Metal: Episode 213 – Staff Picks: Defenders of the Faith

By now, the horrible news of the War On Music tragedy has circulated throughout the Metal world. A fire decimated the WOM store and severely damaged the WOM record label. Radioactive Metal has strong ties to War On Music… it’s “la familia”. But we’ve wiped our tears, dusted ourselves off, and now we’re ready to rock. There’s no better way to do that than talking about the classic JUDAS PRIEST album “Defenders of The Faith”. It’s an old fave of the RAM staff and proved to be a gateway into our Heavy Metal addiction. This seminal Priest effort is a logical starting point for our new (hopefully regular) series “Staff Picks” where we focus on one album that has had a profound effect on all three of us. We dissect the album track by track, as well as the rest of the Metal world, and the world at large during the all important “Defenders” birth year of 1984. Musically, we sample some of the Da Priest, crank some rather appropriate tunes from EVIL SURVIVES, and introduce WOM’s good friends TYRANTS DEMISE in our “Indie Spotlight”. An absolutely incredible album whose influence is still felt today with the addage “defending the faith” still as relevent today as ever. Horns up!!
